Why does Look Sharp Designs submit to so few search engines?
You may be wondering why we submit to such a limited number of search
engines in our search engine marketing plan when other companies promote
that they can submit your site to hundreds or even thousands of search
engines and link sites.
Well, the answer is that we could offer to submit web sites to many
more search engines than the few to which we do submit. We certainly
know who they are and where to find them. However, we concentrate on
the major search engines, because they generate over 90% of all search
engine traffic. While there are hundreds (maybe thousands) of smaller,
more obscure engines and link lists available on the Internet today,
in terms of search engine marketing, they are not nearly as important
as the major search engines.
To bring traffic to your site, you must rank well on that engine.
Considering the time involved in effectively optimizing your pages for
each keyword and engine, we recommend that you go where the action is
and concentrate on the larger search engines. It does not make
much sense to spend 90% of your time and money to increase your traffic
another 10%.
Additionally, you need to be aware that link lists are frowned upon
by the search engines. Some search engines will even ban your site from
its index if you are on them. Developing a reciprocal link directory
of your own that is related to the theme or topic of your web site is
not frowned upon by the search engines, as long as you stay on topic.
If you are targeting an international audience, we have no problem
submitting your site to various international search engines to supplement
the major search engines and enhance your visibility internationally.
